MEN'S ISSUES

Life transitions are as challenging for men as they are for women, yet we tend to internalize our emotions. This makes processing them all the more challenging which has an effect, ultimately on our decision making, relationships and in some cases, our physical health and well-being.

The stress of being expected to have all the answers, can be exhausting. Connecting with our partners and deepening our intimate relationships, our health, our behaviors and even our intimate relationships can suffer.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

I get it. It might help to talk, but I feel somewhat, uncomfortable frankly, asking for help.

I understand. Not only do we, as men, often not ask for help, it’s uncomfortable when we do, to share our feelings. I understand and empathize. Yet I know the value that counseling can provide you. For some men, asking for help is in conflict with how they perceive their masculinity. If this is the case for you, I’d like to reassure you that when working together, you are in a safe and accepting environment where you can freely share your feelings. You needn’t “tough it out.” I’m on this journey with you.

It seems I struggle so much more than my wife in my role as a father, than she does as a mom. Why is that? How can I change this?

The struggles you’re experiencing are to be expected. Being a parent is hard work. We conceptualize the type of father we strive to be, yet are faced with social messages that we are expected to be superheros. Realistically, most men do struggle but are able, through therapy, to tap into the complexities of fatherhood, based on our own upbringing while being kind, considerate and invested in our family and in our role as a dad.
